News media protocol

To ensure fair and equal access by all news media personnel covering the World Series, the following protocol for interviews of players, coaches, managers, and game officials is in place:

    • Near the end of each game, you must notify the media relations staff of which players, coaches, and managers you wish to interview at the post game news conference. An interview request sheet will be in the press box for this purpose. Only those individuals requested on the sheet will be asked to attend the news conference. Remember that no manager, coach, or player is obligated to attend the news conference.

    • All post game interviews will be conducted in the media tent, in front of the left field bullpen, approximately 10-15 minutes after the game has ended. Media outlets covering the game live may request permission to conduct a brief reaction interview outside of the media tent. Requests must be made before the game begins. Television media not broadcasting the game live will not be permitted to conduct post game interviews outside of the tent; they must attend the news conference.

    • Post game interviews will be conducted in a pool format once all players requested for the conference have arrived, along with their manager or their manager’s representative.

    • All interviews for feature stories must be conducted at the media tent. Players cannot be interviewed without their manager or their manager’s representative present, or without their parent or legal guardian present. To request such an interview, please contact Assistant Tournament Director of Communications Ryan Robbins.

    • If you wish to interview a member of the umpiring crew regarding a ruling, please let the communications staff know. The request will be forwarded to the World Series umpire in chief.

    • Photographers and videographers will be permitted to shoot from the dugouts, on the outfield end only, space permitting, and with the consent of the team’s manager. Photographers and videographers may also shoot from the grandstand, as long as they do not block the free flow of pedestrian traffic or fans’ views of the game. Tripods may not be used in dugouts or anywhere in the grandstand. For championship game coverage, photographers and videographers will be allowed onto the field after the game for taking photos and video of the celebration. Reporters will not be allowed onto the field, as there will be a post game news conference.

    • Live scoring will be provided through GameChanger. No news media covering the game may provide its own live scoring. This means no pitch-by-pitch or play-by-play in any form.

These guidelines are in accordance with Little League regulations governing media coverage. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in the loss of credentials. The reasons for these guidelines are to give the grounds crew an unfettered opportunity to prepare the field for the next game and to give teams for the next game an opportunity to take full advantage of space for warm-ups. Also, by requiring that post game interviews be done in a pool news conference format, team personnel will not be delayed in eating meals, returning to their hotel, or joining family and friends.
