Sponsors needed for 2010 World Series

The Senior League Baseball World Series is looking for sponsors for the 2010 series, which will be held Aug. 14-21 at Shawn T. Mansfield Stadium in Bangor. There are eight sponsorship levels: Walk ($100), Single ($250), Double ($500), Triple ($1,000), Home Run ($3,500), and Grand Slam ($5,000 or more).

Sponsors at each level will get ad space in the World Series souvenir program.

Senior League Baseball is Little League Baseball’s division for 14- through 16-year-olds. The World Series features five regional champions from the United States, the Canadian national champion, four international regional champions, and the champion of the host district. The championship game will be broadcast live on ESPNU, direct from Mansfield Stadium, and rebroadcast on ESPN2.

“This is one of the great venues we’ve got in all of our programs,” says Dennis Lewin, a member of Little League International’s board of directors and a summer resident of Orland, only 20 miles from the stadium. “We understand that everybody’s got tough economic issues. Supporting these programs is vital. It’s vital to the community. And I would hope that the city of Bangor and various sponsors within the city recognize the value of bringing an event like this to Bangor. As somebody who lives in Orland during the summers, somebody who married a Bucksport woman, I’d love this event to stay here forever.”

Bangor has been home of the World Series since 2002. Since then, several World Series alumni have gone on to sign professional contracts. Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Jair Jurrgens is the most notable alumnus. Jurrgens played on the 2002 Willemstad, Curacao, team that won the World Series championship. Jurrgens teammate Shairon Martis is in AAA with the Syracuse (N.Y.) Chiefs, an affiliate of the Washington Nationals.

2004 World Series alumnus Dominic Brown, who pitched for Dade City, Fla., in that series, is an outfielder in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He was recently named the 14th top rookie prospect by MLB.com.

Depending on the level, all sponsors will get a minimum of two day or series passes. Home Run and Grand Slam sponsors will have an opportunity to be game sponsors. Both semifinal games, the championship game, and all four Maine District 3 pool play games are prime sponsorship games. Game sponsorships are on a first come, first served basis.
