November 17, 2010 Bangor set to host its 10th Senior League Baseball World Series in 2011
Opening ceremonies will be held Saturday, Aug. 13. The World Series features five U.S. regional champions, representing the East, Southeast, Central, Southwest, and West regions; the Canada national champion; and world regional champions from Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and Europe-Middle East-Africa. The host district – Maine District 3 – will also have a berth. The 10 teams are divided into two five-team pools and play four round robin games during a five-day period. The top two teams in each pool advance to the semifinal round. Notable Bangor World Series alumni include Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Jair Jurrgens (2002, Pabao L.L., Willemstad, Curacao, Dutch Antilles), Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Domonic Brown (2004, Dade City L.L., Dade City, Fla.), New York Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada (2005, Activo 20-30 L.L., Santiago Veraguas, Panama), Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Kenley Jensen (2003, Pabao L.L., Willemstad, Curacao, Dutch Antilles), and Washington Nationals prospect Shairon Martis (2002 and 2003 Pabao L.L., Willemstad, Curacao, Dutch Antilles).
