For years, Ken Parker has been a fixture throughout District 3 as a coach and umpire, starting in the 1960s in his native Lincoln.

His years of service were honored Wednesday night with a brief recognition ceremony before the Bangor-South Vineland game.

Parker served as a coach in his native Lincoln, Madawaska, Westbrook and Bangor since the 1960s, but is more familiar to area baseball fans for his umpiring, which has taken him all over the state and beyond.

In addition to officiating countless baseball games in Maine, he has also umpired at a Little League regional tournament in Bristol, Conn. (1994), a Junior League regional (2002) and a Senior League regional (2004). He finally retired from umpiring in 2008.

Parker was also the umpire in chief for District 3 for many years before retiring from that role in 2006. His son, Chris, has stepped in and is the district’s current umpire-in-chief.
