July 21, 2010 World Series tickets now on sale, in person and online
World Series officials have kept this year’s ticket prices the same as last year’s. Adult series passes, good for all 23 games, are $35; student series passes (also good for all 23 games) are $25, and day passes, good for one day only, are $10. Ticket sales were on announced between the first two games of the Maine District 3 Senior League Baseball tournament. The winner of the eight-team tournament will earn the privilege of being the host team for this year’s World Series. This year’s series will be the 50th Senior League Baseball World Series and Bangor’s ninth. Senior League is for players ages 14 through 16. Little League International board of directors chairman Dennis Lewin praised the World Series staff for its efforts to ensure a successful event despite a tough economy. “We’ve got to remember that this event is run by volunteers, and we all know that there is a lot of this country – a lot of the world – going through tough economic times,” Lewin said. “It’s our fondest hope that the community stays behind it like the way they have, because it’s a fabulous event. I spent 30 years of my life at ABC Sports and 10 at the NFL, and I’ve traveled the world and seen a lot of great events. But very few of them, especially on a local level, can compare to the one you have here in Bangor. It gets national attention on national television, it brings in money in tourism, and we hope it will be here for a long time to come.”
“I’d like to remind people that this event is a two-way street sort of thing,” Bronson said. “It needs the support of the business community, it needs the support of the city, it needs the support of the surrounding communities, but simultaneously it leaves the money in the businesses, it leaves money in the community. So this is the sort of thing that Bangor actually needs more of.” With the 2010 series being Bangor’s ninth, only Taylor, Mich., home of the Junior League World Series (12- to 14-year-olds), has had a series the longest of the seven communities that host series outside of Williamsport, Pa. Taylor will host its 30th Junior League World Series this year. Other communities hosting World Series are Easley, S.C. (Big League Baseball; 16- to 18-year-olds), Portland, Ore. (Little League Softball), Kirkland, Wash. (Junior League Softball), Lower Sussex, Del. (Senior League Softball), and Kalamazoo, Mich. (Big League Softball). Opening ceremonies for the series will begin at 7 p.m., Aug. 14. The evening will include music by the Bangor Band, a Parade of Champions featuring all 10 World Series teams, the playing of each nation’s national anthem by the Bangor Band, the series’ first pitch, and a fireworks display. The opening ceremonies will be free to the public. |
